In what seemed to be a tune up game for Missouri, the women’s soccer team dominated Francis Marion in a 6-1 victory at home. After a disappointing loss to Oklahoma State last Sunday, Mizzou bounced back strong with a blowout performance led by a number of Tiger players. Michelle Collins and Kat Tarr led the way, as did Alysha Bonnick. Mizzou’s first goal came at the feet of Tarr and Collins, as Collins beat the Francis Marion defenders following a deep pass from Tarr. Collins’ goal was her fifth of the season and put her in a in a tie for second most points on the team with 14. Collins’ score was the first goal of the game and came in the 13th minute. Not long after, Missouri upped the lead to 2-0, thanks to Bonnick’s top corner shot. Bonnick’s goal put her at seven for the season, which leads the team. Minutes before halftime, Mizzou stretched its lead to 3-0 when Tarr used her head to get ahead. Ashley Hamblin set up Tarr on a corner kick and the Tigers capitalized. Bree Thornton joined the crew of Mizzou goal scorers when she hit one of her own in the 53rd minute to put the Tigers up 4-0. But, Francis Marion avoided the shutout as Taylor Jenkins scored on a drop shot that Mizzou goalie Mallory Forst could not save. With the score at 4-1, Mizzou scored two more in a matter of 17 minutes. The fifth goal was the product of Kari Adam, who headed in a cross from Hamblin. Right before time expired, Krista Kruse got her licks in as she beat the Francis Marion goalie to the ball While Francis Marion was a bit of a breeze for Mizzou, it all comes down to Sunday, Oct. 19, when Missouri travels to Texas A&M to take on the #6 ranked Aggies. The game will be broadcasted on ESPNU and looks to be a big time match up as Mizzou enters the game ranked 20th in the nation. Missouri is 10-4 this season. |
