The No. 15 Missouri Tigers wrestling team traveled to Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Sunday to compete in a quad meet hosted by SIEU. Eastern Michigan and Truman State were the other two schools competing in the meet.
Missouri easily swept the meet, earning a 25-6 victory over Eastern Michigan to start off the afternoon. The Tigers then went on to defeat SIEU and Truman State by scores of 42-0 and 52-0.
The only two Missouri wrestlers to be defeated were Nicholas Hucke in the 141-weight class and Dorian Henderson in the 174 class. Eastern Michigan wrestlers defeated both men. Hucke lost to Corey Philips by a 7-4 decision while Henderson lost to Philip Joseph by a 6-2 decision.
With seven nationally-ranked wrestlers competing, the Tigers cruised to shutout victories over both SIEU and Truman State. No. 3 in the 125-weight class, Alan Waters, went 3-0 on the day earning 15 points, including a major decision victory over Jared Germain of Eastern Michigan 15-4.
No. 10 in the 133-weight class, Nathan McCormick, earned an impressive victory by fall over Kay’ce Petko from Truman State in the final meet of the day. McCormick’s victory was only 17 seconds into the match.
Junior Clarence Neeley stepped up and filled in for No. 11 Brent Haynes in the 197-weight class for the final two meets of the day. Neeley did an excellent job, earning victories over Cole Rodgers and Zach Hayes. Neeley defeated Hayes by fall just 1:40 into the match. Those two victories were Neeley’s first dual wins of the season.
Their 52-0 victory over Truman State is only the eighth time ever that Missouri has scored more then 50 points in single dual. It was also the fourth highest margin of victory over an opponent in school history.
The Tigers will get the week off before taking on No.1 Oklahoma State on Saturday, Feb. 4 at home in Columbia, Mo. The meet starts at Noon.
