Friday, September 14-

On Friday, September 14, Mizzou welcomed parents that came down to campus for Family Weekend. Tiger parents were in for an eventful stay full of festivities including meet and greets, tours of Columbia, and Saturday’s football game. To kick it off, a special performance was given by Mizzou’s all-male acapella choir known as Add 9.

By 8:45 on Friday evening the Stotler Lounge in Memorial Union was filled with both parents and students eager to watch the performance. On the well-lit stage Add 9 covered a total of five songs. The first song in the collection was the Missouri Waltz/Fight Song, followed by a song titled “Through the Trees,” that was featured in the movie “Jennifer’s Body.” Thirdly, the group sang “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday” originally sung by the soulful Boyz II Men and then the group raised the tempo with the Ben E. King classic “Stand By Me.”

The last song of the night was definitely the most moving and intimate. The stage lighting was dimmed, setting the perfect mood as the group performed both versus of the school’s alma mater.

Although thirteen voices were present, all of them seemed to come together and blend to create one harmonious tone. As Add 9 performed, attendees showed their support by interlocking arms and swaying to the music in what you could call a unifying moment.

Add 9 gave a great performance that thrilled the audience and showcased to parents what tremendous talent we have here on campus.

Add 9 has been an active choir for eight years now. First formed in 2004, the group has grown to fifteen members, six of which are new members this year. Add 9 will continue to make multiple appearances at events throughout the year. For more information regarding the group and upcoming shows, search and like Add9 on Facebook.
