Sunday September 16-
The Mizzou volleyball squad continued its winning ways in the SEC with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-18) victory over Ole Miss. The Tigers improved to 2-0 in the SEC and 10-2 on the season.
Over three sets, Mizzou hit .347, while holding Ole Miss to .179 hitting. In nine of their 12 matches this season, the Tigers have held opponents to under .200. Mizzou has won eight of those matches.
Leading the Tigers were juniors Lisa Henning and Molly Kreklow. Henning posted 13 kills and nine digs, missing out on a double-double. Her stellar play this week against Tennessee and Ole Miss makes her a candidate for SEC Player of the Week.
Kreklow assisted the Tigers 40 times on 47 kills over the match. The junior also added a pair of kills.
In the first set, the Tigers came out firing, scoring on their first three attacks. This led to 16 kills and a statement set win.
Mizzou improved in the second set, hitting .382 with 18 kills. The sharp offensive performance resulted in a commanding 2-0 lead.
The Tigers slowed down slightly in the third set, hitting only .294. Despite the struggles, Mizzou finished off the Rebels to secure the sweep.
Missouri’s victory over Ole Miss has given them two conference wins this week.
After a couple home matches, the Tigers will round out the week with back-to-back road tests. Missouri visits No. 13 Florida Friday and finishes the week at LSU on Sunday.
The Tigers last met the Gators in the opening round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament. Florida won the match 3-1, ending Mizzou’s hopes of a title run.
Missouri will be looking for redemption in Gainesville. The match starts at 6 p.m. Friday.
