The Mizzou softball (23-16) team took home two wins Tuesday night, improving their record to 4-0 on mid-week double headers. In game one, the Tigers won 10-2 (six innings), while in game two, it was a walk-off single from sophomore Kolby Romaine that sealed a 6-5 Tigers win.
Sophomore Regan Nash and senior Natalie Fleming had huge nights for the Tigers, as both had multi-hit games in each game. Mizzou had a total batting average of .382 between the two games, paving the way for their wins.
In game one, the Tigers came out hot to start as they tallied five runs in the opening inning. Senior Chloe Rathburn had a total of three RBIs in the game, which tied her season-high. Along with Rathburn, Fleming also totaled three RBIs, including a two-run home run in the first to increase the lead to four at the end of the first.
The Tigers totaled nine of their 10 runs in the first three innings of the game. It was not until the sixth inning when Fleming singled home redshirt freshman Jolie Duffner that the Tigers took the win in game one.
In game two, it was Western Illinois who got out to the hot start, scoring three runs in the first two innings. After the Tigers scored one in the first inning, it was once again Fleming bringing in runs after she hit a two-run double in the bottom of the third to tie the game back up.
The game stayed even until the end as Western Illinois led the Tigers 5-4. It was in the bottom of the seventh when Romaine hit her single to center field that tallied two runs and a win for the Tigers.
The Tigers travel to play No. 7 Auburn for this weekend’s SEC series (April 14-16). First pitch on April 14 is set for 6 p.m.
