Mizzou Wrestling Takes First at Joe Parisi Open

The Missouri wrestling team took part in the Joe Parisi Open at Lindenwood University on Friday night. The No. 7 Tigers dominated the tournament leading all teams with five wrestlers taking first place as well as 12 placing in their brackets in a field that included wrestlers from several other ranked Division I schools.

Mizzou’s Alan Waters defeated Oklahoma State’s Jarrod Peterson to take first place in the 125-pound class and continue his undefeated campaign.

The 131-pound class saw another Mizzou-Oklahoma St. final, as Tiger senior Nathan McCormick faced off against the Cowboys’ Jon Morrison. McCormick won the match 4-3 to give the Tigers their second first-place finish of the day.

Mizzou and Oklahoma State faced off in the finals a total of six times. The Tigers and Cowboys split their matches in the finals, with each taking three victories.

The Tigers controlled the 141-pound class, as redshirt freshman Trevor Jauch and senior Eric Wilson both made it to the finals. Jauch won the battle between the two to take first place and improve his record 11-0 for the season.

Brent Haynes won a 3-1 decision over McKendree University’s Kyle Reid in the final match of the 197-pound class bracket to give the Tigers another first place finish. Hayne pushed his record to 8-0 on the year.

Dom Bradley took home first place in the heavyweight division, defeating Oklahoma State’s Austin Marsden with a 3-2 decision. It would be the fifth and final first-place finish for the Tigers.

Oklahoma State’s Chris Perry, who grabbed first place in the 174-pound class, was named Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. Mizzou’s Todd Porter fell to Perry in the final match.

Porter, Drake Houdashelt and Zach Toal all finished second in their brackets after losing to Oklahoma State opponents in the finals.

Mizzou continues its season as they take on San Diego State at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by Stanford at 3:00 p.m..
