Monday Nov. 6 through 10, the Residence Halls Association hosted Paint it Pink Week in support of breast cancer awareness.

Each day of the week, RHA members stood at The Speakers Circle selling Paint it Pink tee-shirts for $5 donations. The money raised throughout the week went to the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, which is located on campus. The proceeds will go to research and to a mammogram van, which is planned to give women mammograms across the state.

Along with tee-shirt sales, RHA hosted daily events. The Plate Smash and The Paint it Pink Tail-Gate were the two new events this year.

“We are trying to make The Paint it Pink Week Tail-gate a Mizzou tradition, because we are working with organizations,” said Colleen Burns RHA Communications Coordinator.

On Monday students and faculty, dressed in pink, met at Tiger Plaza to take the Passionately Pinked Out Picture. While selling tee-shirts on Tuesday RHA offered a free plate to those who donated. The plates where then smashed on the ground in order to represent “smashing out cancer.” Dinning halls across campus served pink food on Wednesday. Then Shakespeare’s Pizza gave 15% of proceeds to Ellis Fischel Cancer Center on Thursday. The tail-gate was held Friday before the volleyball game.

“Because we have the Ellis Fiscehel Cancer Center right here at the hospital on campus, and because it’s one of the best in the nation. We are trying to raise money to try and support them, so they can break barriers in cancer research”, said Burns.
