On Dec. 6, the Women’s Center hosted the 3rd Annual Family Winter Party.

In celebration of the holiday season, all parenting MU students and faculty members were invited to bring their children to enjoy classic holiday activities. While Christmas cartoons played, families were able to eat lunch together, decorate cookies, make gingerbread ornaments and color pictures.

Guadalupe Cruz, a Counseling Psychology Graduate Student, coordinated the Family Winter Party. Cruz manages the Mizzou Families Women’s Center Listserv to promote family friendly events and campus and community resources that are available to parenting MU students.

“I plan, organize, and execute family programming events as well as attend the Boone County Networking Early Childhood Team meetings once a month to connect Mizzou families with our local community,” said Cruz.

Cruz is also the coordinator of the Language Partners Program, so The Family Winter Party was a nice get together of families of different origins. Several children who barely spoke English were able to experience holiday traditions of American culture for the first time. Ryan Wang, a young attendee who came to the United States about three months ago, said that he was excited to be at the party to decorate cookies and watch cartoons with his friends.
