In front of over 3,200 screaming fans, the Missouri Tigers took on the Florida Gators in the SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament on Thursday and came away with a 87-56 victory.

In a back and forth first quarter, both teams looked as though neither would pull away from the other and the first quarter ended tied at 20-20. However, the 21-9 Tigers proved their spot as the fifth seed in the tournament was no fluke when they took over the entire game in the second and never looked back.

The women came away with a monstrous 31 point win with a final score of 87-56. This is the second most points Mizzou has scored this season, second to their 89-64 victory over Western Illinois. This was also the Tigers’ largest win of the entire season, making a statement in the SEC Tournament that they are a force to be reckoned with.

After losing to Florida by two earlier this season, the depth of the Tigers made sure that wouldn’t happen again Thursday. The best player on the court by far today was Junior guard Amber Smith, who had 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and added a block.

Redshirt junior Hannah Schuchts and Redshirt Freshman Haley Troup also had big games as well. Schuchts had 16 points and three rebounds, and Troup finished with 10 points, six assists, and two rebounds. The depth of the Tigers were a massive reason as to why Tigers won so easily. Sophie Cunningham also had herself a typical dominating performance. In the 27 minutes she played, Cunningham walked away with 13 points, six rebounds, and three assists.

The Tigers return to action Friday against the fourth seeded Kentucky Wildcats at
1:30PM. That game will be on the SEC Network.
