Bright and early on Saturday morning students gathered at the St. Thomas More Parish and Newman Center to take part in the Newman Volunteer Corps Day of Service.

The Day of Service, hosted by the Catholic Student Association, is a half day event that given MU students the opportunity to give back to the wonderful city we live in.

After a short prayer service students were split into groups and taken by bus to several locations in Columbia. Habitat for Humanity, St. Francis House, Lois Bryant House, Columbia Manor Care Center, Refugee & Immigration Services and Newman’s Needlework all accepted volunteered services.

Students partook in activities ranging from kitchen clean ups to knitting squares for a quilt. A few hours, a sack lunch and a little elbow grease later, MU students had made a positive impact
