MUTV began broadcasting in fall 1999. The network’s first program, MUTV News (now 23 News) aired on Mizzou Telecom channel 38. In 2003, the University’s cable provider moved the network to its present home on channel 23. The move consolidated broadcasting services for the University and helped the network re-brand itself.

Originally MUTV was a promotional tool for the University’s student government. As the network developed, its mission began to change. It now provides students with real-life media experience. The network’s emphasis is journalism and communication; however, it serves all students who may pursue careers in media.

As part of the network’s re-launch, a partnership between MUTV and the Residence Hall Association (RHA) was formed to allow for expanded programming. In fall 2003, MUTV began showing blockbuster feature films.

With the addition of more advanced equipment, MUTV is able to produce more than one consistent original program. We are no longer just a news station. Students can now count on MUTV to produce talk, comedy, trivia and a host of other programs. MUTV now features news, entertainment, three sports shows and a morning show.

In 2005, MUTV began designing its future. In conjunction with a skilled design team, MUTV initiated plans for an all-new state-of-the-art studio in the new University of Missouri Student Center. MUTV’s new studio opened at the beginning of the 2012 spring semester. The studio is equip with a full set, green screen and production room. The entire studio replicates a real-world environment, giving students the experience and training they need to produce a TV show even after they graduate. The studio is located in the lower level of the Student Center, and is open for touring from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

We encourage anyone with a strong work ethic, an interest in television and a drive to have a successful future to join us. To find out more about how you can get involved no matter what your major is, click here.
