Alabama Spoils Christensen’s Senior Day

Friday, April 5-

The Missouri women’s tennis team’s match against Alabama started out on a positive note, as the Tigers honored the career of senior Maria Christensen. The Crimson Tide (9-9 overall, 2-8 SEC) spoiled the celebration for the Tigers (17-2, 9-1) though, sweeping the match 4-0.

Missouri’s No. 1 doubles team of Cierra Gaytan-Leach and Alex Clark was defeated 8-1 in a match against Alabama’s Alex Guarachi and Mary Anne Macfarlane, the No. 6 doubles team in the nation.

Missouri’s No. 2 doubles team, Christensen and Rachel Stuhlmann, also fell at the hands of the Crimson Tide. Alabama’s Antionia Foehse and Maya Jensen took the close 8-6 victory.

Missouri’s No. 1 and No. 2 singles players both lost their matches to Alabama 6-3, 6-4. Gaytan-Leach suffered another defeat at the hands of Macfarlane, while Macfarlane’s partner also scored a singles victory when Guarachi defeated Stuhlmann for her 102nd career win. The victory made Guarachi the winningest singles player in Alabama history.

The Tide finished the day with a win at the No. 6 singles position, when Natalia Maynetto dominated the Tigers’ Madison Rhyner, taking the 6-1, 6-1 win.

The Tigers will have a chance to redeem themselves when they host the Auburn Tigers at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
