Brian Sharp Hits and Pitches the Tigers to a Win

The Missouri Tigers baseball team took the field in an early season matchup against the University of Miami on Wednesday, and handed the ball to junior Brian Sharp for the start. Sharp lived up to his name, and his solid outing helped carry the Tigers to a 9-0 win.

After starting two of the first three games at third base, Brian Sharp made his first appearance of the season on the mound. He was locked in a pitchers duel with Miami’s Michael Mediavilla for the first three innings, but in the fourth the Tigers were able to push across an unearned run on an error. It was all downhill for Miami from that point on. The Tigers scored five in that inning alone. Sharp kept weaving his way through the opposing lineup and ended the night with five innings of shutout ball and eight strikeouts.  TJ Sikkema picked up the next three innings and Cameron Dulle shut the door for the Tigers third win on the young season

Sharp couldn’t carry Mizzou alone, but luckily for him the Tigers offense was hot. Every starter including pitcher Brian Sharp reached base and six different guys scored a run. Sophomore shortstop Chris Cornelius led the charge with three hits and two runs batted in. Kameron Misner and Trey Harris both picked up a couple hits and scored a combined four of the team’s nine runs.

Starting Friday, the Tigers will play a four game series against Northeastern University. Mizzou will be looking to win their second series of the year.
