The University of Missouri Soccer team invited its furry friends to the field on Sunday but was unable to handle the University of Georgia Bulldogs. Mizzou lost to Georgia by a score of 5-1 on Sunday afternoon.

The game, which took place at Walton Stadium in Missouri, was advertised with the theme of “Pups on the Pitch.” Fans were encouraged to bring their canine companions along to watch Mizzou’s third SEC match of the season.

Georgia drew first blood in the 18th minute with a goal by Dani Murguia. Georgia’s opening lead was short lived, though, after Mizzou responded just over two minutes later with a goal by Sarah Luebbert.

The Tigers were unable to maintain the deadlock, as they conceded a goal to Georgia in the 29th minute. Neither side scored again before the halftime break.

Georgia took control in the second half, scoring three consecutive goals. Daria Stan scored via an assist from Mallie McKenzie in the 68th minute. Chloe Chapman proceeded to put the ball in the back of the net twice, scoring in the 76th and 82nd minutes.

Georgia put 11 total shots on goal while Missouri was only able to muster two shots on target.

Missouri falls to 6-4-1 on the season and is still looking for its first win in SEC play. The Tigers will face off against the University of South Carolina in their next matchup at home on Friday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m.
