Bulldogs Too Much for Struggling Tigers

Mizzou traveled down south to Starkville, Mississippi to face the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday night. The Tigers looking to avoid their third straight loss and gain back the winning momentum, after falling to Auburn at home earlier in the week.

Mizzou was able to get on the board with the game’s first points coming from Kassius Robertson who landed a jump shot, to put his team up by two early. Seconds later, Robertson’s teammate, Jordan Barnett followed up with a tip in, giving the Tigers a 4-0 lead over the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs were able to follow that up by finding some quick momentum of their own, hitting back to back threes to pull ahead 6-4 with seventeen minutes to go in the first half.

From there, it was back and forth for both teams as neither team reached twenty points until midway through the first half (8:32).

Going into halftime, Mississippi State’s Aric Holman, made a two point put back at the buzzer, this tied the game at 31 a piece going into the locker room.

The Bulldogs came out firing in the second half to the tune of a 7-0 run. The Tigers first points of the second half came from a Jordan Geist layup, cutting Mississippi State’s lead to four with just over sixteen minutes to play in the second half.

From there, it was all Bulldogs, as Mizzou was only successful from behind the arc once, thanks to a three point basket from Robertson with twelve minutes to go.

Mississippi State maintained an eleven point lead going down the stretch, defeating Mizzou, 74-62.

Foul trouble was a killer for Mizzou, Jontay Porter finished with four fouls, while Cullen VanLeer and Kaissus Robertson both finished with three each.

Quinndary Weatherspoon lead all scorers for the Bulldogs with 2o points. Abdul Ado and Nick Weatherspoon dished in 12 points each.

For the Tigers, Kassius Robertson was the leading scorer with 20 points.

Mizzou falls to 13-8 overall, 3-5 (SEC).

The Tigers will look to snap a 3 game losing skid on the road next Wednesday, where they will travel to Tuscaloosa to face the Alabama Crimson Tide. Game is scheduled for 8 PM.
