Chavis leads No. 12 Missouri past Vanderbilt in 81-70 Win

Jordan Chavis put up a career-high 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting from 3-point range off the bench as No. 12 Missouri topped Vanderbilt 81-70 on Thursday night.

Amber Smith also had 18 points to go along with 4 rebounds. Jordan Frericks scored 10 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and dished out 6 assists, and Cierra Porter added 9 points and 7 rebounds. Sophie Cunningham struggled from the field as she recorded just 5 points on 2-of-9 shooting, but the Tigers still managed to have success offensively.

Cierra Walker led the Commodores with 17 points on 4-of-5 shooting from 3-point range. Kayla Overbeck and Erin Whalen each made big contributions off the bench. Overbeck had 12 points while Whalen added 15 points. Rachel Bell scored 9 points, and Autumn Newby pulled down 10 rebounds.

Mizzou got off to a great start in the first half, going on a 10-0 at one point in the first quarter and led by 10 at the conclusion of that quarter. In the second quarter, the Tigers knocked down three straight triples which extended their lead out to 20. During the quarter, Vandy was scoreless for just over two minutes and Missouri led 48-37 at the half. In the third quarter, Missouri went on a mini 6-0 run in less than 2 minutes which stretched their lead to 16 points. The Commodores went scoreless over a span of 4:34, and the Tigers shot 56.3 percent from the field through three quarters and outscored Vanderbilt 24-10 in the quarter to lead by 25 going into the 4th. In the final quarter, Vandy went on two 11-0 runs in attempt to rally back into the game. Missouri scored just 9 points in the quarter, but managed to hang on for the victory.

With the win, Missouri moved to 3-1 against the SEC and 15-2 overall. Next up for the Tigers is a road game against Ole Miss next Thursday.
