Cowboys Lasso Tigers Again in NCWA Semifinals

Saturday, Feb. 23-

In an otherwise highly successful year, the No. 6 Tigers wrestling team has been unable to figure out exactly how to compete against the current No. 1 school in the nation, Oklahoma State.

As was the case Feb. 1 in the annual Beauty and the Beast Competition, Mizzou was could not out-duel the Cowboys on Saturday, this time falling 22-9 in the NCWA Cliff Keen National Duals Semi-Finals in Minnesota.

The contest occurred on a much bigger stage than before, but ended with a strikingly similar result, as Oklahoma State was victorious in seven of the 10 matches.

While the top ranked team in the country came out on victorious once again, the same could not be said for the nation’s best heavyweight wrestler.

Coming into the semi-finals ranked No. 1, Mizzou senior Dom Bradley dropped his first bout of the season against No. 3 Alan Gelogaev by a score of 4-3.

It was a matchup of two goliaths, and became so physical at one point that both competitors received unsportsmanlike conduct penalties because of a heated altercation that occurred in the second round.

Although the team did not advance to the finals, there were definitely a few bright spots for the Tigers, as Alan Waters, Nicholas Hucke and Brent Haynes all were triumphant in their respective matches.

Mizzou now gets ready for another tough competitor in the third place match against No. 2 Iowa at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
