Missouri cross country closed out the regular season at the Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, IN on Saturday. Both teams were coming off successful finishes at the Bradley Pink Invitational in Peoria, IL, on Friday and hoped to keep the momentum going into day two of their back-to-back meet weekend.

The top six women and top seven men runners from the two teams squared off against 14 of the top-ranked teams in the nation at one of the most prestigious meets of the collegiate season.

The Tigers now enter the Championship portion of the season with momentum, achieving three top-25 individual finishes on Saturday afternoon

The women kicked off the meet on the LaVerne Gibson Cross Country Course, home of the NCAA Championships next month, with the 6000-meter race. Sophomore Kaitlyn Fisher led the way for the Tiger’s with an impressive ninth (21:01.60) place finish, crossing the line before several top women runners in the NCAA.

Following Fisher was freshman Karissa Schweizer who crossed the line in 85th (21:56.20), and sophomore Nicole Mello who finished 153rd. The women team finished 23rd overall out of 43 total teams.

Finishing 14th overall, the men had an impressive showing in the 8000-meter race, pulling ahead of No. 21 Southern Utah. Sophomore T.J. Carey and junior Tyler Schneider were even the entire race. In the end, it was less than one second that made the difference for Schneider who placed first for the Tiger’s and 21st (24:43.70) overall. Carey ended the day in 22nd (24:44.50), followed by senior Sam Dickerson (122nd) and sophomore Dan Roe (126th).

The Tiger’s are going to take advantage of the next two weeks of rest before heading off to Alabama for the SEC Championships on October 31.
