Cuartero Claims Farms Invite Title

Tuesday, Feb. 12-

Mizzou junior Emilio Cuartero, a native of Lleida, Spain, took the individual title at The Farms Collegiate Invitational in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. His Missouri team started out the tournament strong and finished third overall out of the 12-team field.

After the first day, both Cuartero and senior Jace Long placed in the top ten, while Missouri as a team stood third. Although Long faltered a little on the final day, the star Tiger from Dixon, Mo., still managed to place 11th.

Cuartero though, was a different story. After settling in at fourth on Day 1, he fought back to shoot a 71 on his final round, finishing a single stroke ahead of the second place competitor.

Freshman Jacob Fair also turned in an impressive performance for the Tigers as he closed out the tournament in 13th place. The Mizzou first-year entered the final round sitting at 18th, but was able to notch a 73 to move up five spots. It was the third top-fifteen performance of Fair’s short career.

Rounding out Mizzou’s performances were Hunter Kraus and Ryan Zech, who placed 39th and 42nd respectively.

Pacific University took the team crown, overtaking Saint Mary’s University on the final round to finish three strokes above the Gaels. Missouri followed at third and the host, San Diego University, slid in three shots behind the Tigers.

The Tiger squad will resume competition Feb. 25-26 at the Snowman Getaway Intercollegiate in Chandler, Ariz.
