Dons Complete Sweep over Tiger Baseball

Sunday, Feb. 26 –

The Missouri Tigers’ baseball team is off to a rough start in the beginning of the 2012 regular season.

The Tigers’ bats were kept quiet for the third consecutive game as the San Francisco Dons defeated the Missouri Tigers 6-0 to finish off the weekend series sweep. The Tigers now have fallen to a record of 2-4 on the season.

The Tiger offense was shut down all afternoon as southpaw Christian Cecilio was dealing. Cecilio finished his outing with three hits allowed in 6.1 innings pitched, striking out three Tiger batters. Freshmen righties Alex Balog and Haden Hinkle finished the job for Cecilio to give him his first win on the season.

Meanwhile, sophomore starter Jeff Cline could not give his team a lift as he took his first loss on the season. Cline was shelled from the start of the game, allowing four runs on four hits and only lasting 1.1 innings. Cline, who compiled a 6-3 record and a 2.30 ERA last year at MCC-Maple Woods Community College, will need to make the necessary adjustments to not have outings like he did this afternoon the rest of the way.

San Francisco kept the Tiger bats off of the scoreboard Sunday afternoon and for the most part, the entire weekend. The Tigers only amassed two runs on 14 hits throughout the series against the Dons. They were constantly fooled by San Francisco’s pitchers, striking out 20 times in the three-game series.

Missouri now will look to begin a 19-game home stand this Friday night at Taylor Stadium when they begin a three-game series with the Ball State Cardinals at 6:00 p.m.
