DWTS Week 3 Results: Two Former Champions Go Home

Wednesday, October 10-

The results show for “Dancing with the Stars” this week was intense as it included a double elimination and couples selecting the genre of dances for their competitors for next week.

Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough performed an encore of their routine that landed them in third place from their judges’ scores.

Within the first half hour, one couple was eliminated from the competition. From round one of Melissa Rycroft, Gilles Marini, Kirstie Alley, and Emmitt Smith, one all-star was placed in the bottom two. Alley and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy were in the bottom two, alone with another couple round the second round.

The second round included Shawn Johnson, Apolo Ohno, Drew Lachey, and Kelly Monaco. Johnson, Ohno and Monaco were declared safe. Lachey was placed in the bottom two for the second time this season. Out of Alley and Lachey in jeopardy, the season two champion, Lachey was sent home.

Performances during the results show included a medley of hits “Hello” and “Brokenhearted” by Karmin, Frankie Moreno, and AT&T Spotlight Performance Joshua Jameson.

Three couples have yet to hear their fate: Sabrina Bryan, Helio Castroneves, and Bristol Palin. After a surprising announcement that Palin remained safe in the competition, the second elimination of the night would be between Bryan and Castroneves. Castroneves was eliminated, making it two former champions who have never been eliminated, sent home.

From Monday night’s announcement, each couple would select the dance genre their competitors would perform next week. The pairings were chosen by having the lowest overall score couples choose the genre for the highest scoring couples. Here are the all-star pairings and the genres chosen.

Bristol Palin chose Bollywood for Gilles Marini.

Kirstie Alley chose Disco for Sabrina Bryan.

Helio Castroneves chose Mambo for Shawn Johnson.

Kelly Monaco chose Balero for Emmitt Smith.

Melissa Rycroft chose Hip Hop for Apolo Ohno.

Apolo Ohno chose Jitterbug for Melissa Rycroft.

Emmit Smith chose Contemporary for Kelly Monaco.

Sabrina Bryan chose the Charleston for Kirstie Alley.

Rock ‘n’ Roll was the remaining genre for Bristol Palin.

Next week on “Dancing with the Stars” Paula Abdul will be on the panel as a guest judge. The nine remaining all-star couples will dance the genre style selected by their competitors. The dances will be at 7 pm central time, Monday, October 15. The results show will be at 8 pm central time, Tuesday, October 16.
