Eye, Lady Tigers Torch Western Illinois by 15

The Mizzou women’s basketball team improved its overall record to 11-2 after a 75-60 victory over Western Illinois to get back on track after a disappointing defeat at the hands of Missouri State.

Morgan Eye led the way for the Tigers with 22 points and seven rebounds. The victory marks the final game of non-conference play for Mizzou before its begin a difficult SEC conference schedule.

In the first half, the Tigers jumped out to an early lead off of an 13-2 run the begin the game powered by three buckets by Jordan Fredricks, who would finish with 14 points on the day. Fredricks would hit another layup before Kayla McDowell would add two points of her own to give Mizzou a 13-point lead halfway through the first half.

Missouri would not let up later in the half as Eye hit a big three-pointer off of her own miss and a rebound by Bri Kulas to put the score at 41-23 with 1:43 left to play. Eye would hit a late jumper with five seconds remaining to give the Tigers a 45-27 lead heading into the half.

A few early baskets by Western Illinois would cut the lead to nine for Missouri. Eye hit a big three to make it 52-40 with 13:02 left to play. Missouri shot just over 45 percent beyond the arc and Eye and Sierra Michaelis would add two more three pointers to give Mizzou a comfortable 18 point lead that proved to be too much for the Leathernecks.

Missouri will begin conference play against Ole Miss on Jan. 2.
