Summer is just around the corner and with it comes warm weather, days by the pool and absolutely no homework. However, some people- including myself- must work during the hot, sweaty days of the summer to maintain a certain lifestyle. On the bright side, it’s not cold and school is out. On the other hand, sometimes it’s hard to get a conventional job. If you’re struggling to find a standard job or just don’t like what’s out there, here are some of your options.

  1. Ice cream truck operator

You only need to be 18 years old to own and run an ice cream truck. How cool is that? Literally, it’s ice cold.

  1. Professional character

If you love children, dressing up in costume and acting, tap into your inner princess, pirate or superhero at kids’ birthday parties. Kids will love you, and you’ll have a blast as they say weird things, dance around and just generally be kids. You might even get leftover cake.

  1. Uber driver

If you’re 18 years old, you can work for Uber. You do have to drive your own car and pay for your own gas, but the job pays well and all you have to do is drive.

  1. Sign spinner

Lift some arm weights and buy some sunscreen to prepare for this position. All you have to do is stand outside and grab people’s attention by holding a sign. You can also work on your tan, but be wary of odd tan lines.

  1. Human guinea pig

You read that correctly. Researchers are always holding experiments and focus groups in which you don’t have to do too much to participate. You just have to look for those opportunities. Sure, you might have to maintain a weird diet or you might lose an eyebrow, but you’ll make some great money.

These are just a few of the many existing odd jobs you could pick up for the summer. Forget working at McDonald’s or the local grocery store, make your summer work experience one to remember!
