After a heartbreaking loss to the Temple Owls, the Tigers suited up against another AAC opponent, the Knights of Central Florida (6-1). Going into Sunday’s game against UCF, the Tigers were a 3-point underdog and were looking to avoid falling below .500 for the first time since the 2016-17 campaign. The game took more than 40 minutes to decide, but in the end Missouri came away with the 64-62 win in overtime.

The game was a defensive battle throughout, especially in the first half. Missouri got off to a quick 9-2 lead on three three pointers, but then the Tigers’ offense went cold. UCF’s offense wasn’t on fire either, but the Knights were able to do just enough to go into halftime with a comfortable 26-19 lead. In the second half, the three ball helped the Missouri offense wake up a little bit, propelling the Tigers to a 41-34 lead with 13:35 remaining. But UCF would fight back and Mizzou would end up needing a Jordan Geist three pointer at the buzzer to send the game to overtime. In overtime, the Tigers relied on their stingy defense to hold the Knights to only five in the extra period. A Jordan Geist rebound sealed the Tigers’ 64-62 victory.

The Knights were led by Junior Guard Aubrey Dawkins, who netted 22 points on 66% shooting and shot 5-8 (62.5%) from the 3-point line. Dawkins was nearly unstoppable and was a major problem for the Tigers.

Senior Guard Jordan Geist, a player who has been regularly criticized for his role in late game situations, redeemed himself as he hoisted a buzzer-beating three pointer that forced overtime. Geist has been very reliable stepping into the leader position this season as he is currently the 2nd leading scorer for the Tigers and has led the Tigers in scoring three times this season. The Tigers also had help from the freshman Javon Pickett who netted 13 points and Sophomore Center Jeremiah Tilmon who added 10 points.

The Tigers have a quick turn around as the University of Texas-Arlington Mavericks come to town Tuesday, December 4th. The game will be hosted at Mizzou Arena and tipoff is at 7 p.m. Central Time. The game will be aired on SEC Network Plus.
