“Guardians of the Galaxy” trailer offers insight into new Marvel movie

The first theatrical trailer for Marvel’s upcoming film,  “The Guardians of the Galaxy” aired last week, and while what was on the screen was important what was highlighted was something else entirely.

The upcoming film truly represents the growing gap between all things Marvel and all things DC. While DC and Warner Bros. continue to debate the feasibility of a solo Wonder Woman film, Marvel has pushed ahead with a relatively unknown property in “Guardians.”

After the success of recent films such as “The Avengers,”which grossed $1.5 billion worldwide, and “Thor: The Dark World,” $640 million, and with the backing of corporate giant Disney, it seems Marvel is well set to take this risk.

Part of what some may see as a risk is the film’s two arguably biggest stars, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper, starring as a massive talking tree (Groot) and a renegade raccoon (Rocket), respectively. Less risky is “Parks and Recreation” actor Chris Pratt taking the leading role as Alex Quinn—or as his character refers to himself, “Starlord.”

Highlights of the trailer include the on screen premiere of Rocket Racoon, Pratt’s character attempting to flip the bird to his arresting officers and an extensive action sequence that concludes the trailer. “The Guardians of the Galaxy” hits theaters August 1.
