Gymnastics collects best score of the season

The Mizzou gymnastics team concluded its three meet road stretch in Cape Girardeau, MO for the State of Missouri Meet against the Lindenwood Lions and Southeast Missouri State Redhawks on Friday.

With an overall team score of 195.850, the Tigers placed first place in the tri-meet and received their best scores of the season on the vault, bars, and floor exercise.

Missouri started the night on the balance beam, where they didn’t have to count any falls against their score of 48.325 in the rotation. Freshman Shauna Miller led the event for the Tigers with a 9.775.

On the floor exercise, four different Tigers scored a 9.825 or above, helping the team reach a season high 49.125 on the event. The rotation was led by freshman Becca Schugel who earned a 9.875, followed by senior Briana Conkle’s 9.850.

The Tigers would move on to vault, where senior Laura Kappler and Schugel both posted a career high of 9.900. Mizzou finished the rotation with a 49.250.

Missouri dominated in their final rotation on the uneven bars, where five different gymnasts scored a 9.800 or higher. Senior Becca Johnson won her first event title of the year, matching a career high of 9.900. She was followed by junior Miranda Eubank with a 9.800.

Kappler’s 39.175 all-around score helped her win the first all-around title of her career in a Mizzou leotard.

The Tigers hope to improve on their best performance of the season and earn their first SEC win of the season as they home face the Kentucky Wildcats at the Hearnes Center on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The meet will be aired on SEC Network +.
