The Missouri Tigers (5-4) baseball team opened its 2019 home campaign against the Alabama A&M Bulldogs (0-10) Tuesday evening. Mizzou got the start at Taylor Stadium they were looking for, as the Tigers’ hot bats led them to a 13-5 victory over the Bulldogs.

The Tigers production came from all over the lineup, as seven players tallied an RBI. The Bulldogs did not help themselves, as they walked 12 Tigers at the plate. The Tigers also benefited from four errors from Alabama A&M. The Tigers offense was led by Austin James, who went 2-for-5, had a triple, an RBI, and two runs on the day. Missouri also got help from Connor Brumfield, who went 1-for-4, stole a base, and batted in four runs. The Tigers had ten hits in the contest, the fifth time the team has reached double digit hits on the season. The 13 runs scored by the Tigers is the team’s highest of the season. Freshman Pitcher Tommy Springer picked up the win on the mound for the Tigers. Springer pitched three innings and had two strikeouts while giving up four hits.

For the Bulldogs, pitcher Logan Smith picked up the loss on the mound. The errors made by the Bulldogs were made by Stephan Soto (2), Richard Polinsky (1), and Pierre Brewton (1). The Bulldogs had 7 hits, and one stolen base by Pierre Brewton.

The game was fairly close until the Tigers broke it open the bottom of the seventh with a six run inning. The Tigers had four hits that inning, walked three times, and were helped out by two Bulldog errors.

The Tigers will now travel to Conway, Arkansas to take on the Central Arkansas Bears at Bear Stadium on March 1.
