Tigers Basketball Drop Final Game of Regular Season

Saturday, March 3 –

After a close 29-29 first half, the Oklahoma State Cowgirls blew the doors off Mizzou.

The Cowgirls started the second half with a 16-0 run and went on to win the final game of the regular season 68-47 in Stillwater.

The harsh truth is in the box score. Both teams struggled to find rhythm early but OSU turned it on while Mizzou shrunk to the occasion.

Mizzou was -10 on the rebounding totals despite a career night by Christine Flores who snatched 16 boards alone. The Tigers hit six of 12 three pointers in the first period but went ice cold in the second, not making a single shot from behind the arc. This inability to get the ball in the hoop led to a 21-point difference in the end.

The women’s team finished 2-16 in Conference play heading into the Big 12 Tournament. They will face OSU once more on March 7 for a chance to move on in the bracket. It helps that the Tigers are practically playing in their backyard at the Municipal Auditorium just 126 miles down I-70W in Kansas City.

While the numbers can seem discouraging, Mizzou did have two quality wins late against Kansas in Lawrence and Kansas State at home. The team has shown growth over the season and has a shot to pull off a win if they play with consistently throughout the game.

It may have been a hard season to watch so far, but Tiger fans have something to look forward to because the women’s basketball program is headed in the right direction with head coach Robin Pingeton at the helm. She’s backed by a confident athletic director in Mike Alden, and with the right people in charge, Missouri has a fighting chance to make things happen.
