Monday, Oct. 27 —

Mizzou freshman Brianna Lashway took home the Hoosier Draw title Sunday after a perfect 3-0 performance at the Hoosier Classic in Bloomington Ind.

Lashway defeated Indiana sophomore Mary Beth King 6-1, 6-3 to lock up the title, improving her record to 6-3 on the year. She completed her three matches without dropping a set, first knocking off Labina Petrovska of Western Michigan 6-0, 6-4, then dominating Cincinnati’s Natalia Abdalla 6-0, 6-0 before her victory over King.

Two other Tigers were also involved in singles action at the Hoosier Classic. Sophomore Cassidy Spearman cruised to victory in her first match of the tournament, but suffered an injury in the first set of her second-round match against DePaul’s Ana Vladutu, forcing her to retire and end her tournament.

Tiger sophomore Beatriz Machado Santos struggled in Hoosier Classic play, losing in three sets in her first match before dropping her next two in straight sets.

Santos did find success in the doubles competition however, as she and Spearman won two of their first three matches, including a perfect 8-0 win against Hannah Willie and Samantha Perry of Cincinnati. After dropping their second match to a team from DePaul, Spearman and Santos won again against Tracy Kuhle and Barbare Eristavi of Western Michigan.

Following Spearman’s injury forced her out of the competition, Santos teamed up with Lashway, and defeated Kim Schmider and Sarah Baron of Indiana.

Elsewhere in Hoosier Classic play, Indiana freshman Sarah Baron won a lengthy third set for the Indiana Draw title, and Rebeca Mitrea, a senior for DePaul, won the Crimson Draw with a straight sets victory.

Mizzou tennis has one event left in the fall season, the San Diego State Fall Classic. Play from San Diego will get underway Nov. 7.
