Long, Tigers Claim Another Tournament Title

Sunday, Sept. 30-

The undefeated No. 11 Missouri Tigers golf team has another trophy to add to their collection this season as the team won the CHAMPS/Patriot Intercollegiate Golf Tournament in Lorton, Va., on Sunday.

The Tigers were led by senior Jace Long, who won his third tournament in a row this season. In the final round, Long shot a four-under par 67, and finished the tournament with a four-under 209.

The Tigers were not done yet. All five golfers finished in the top 15, with junior Emilio Cuartero finishing second posting a 211. Cuartero was the leader after 36 holes, but Long stole the lead away from him on the final day and beat him by two strokes.

The other golfers that contributed to the Tigers win were sophomore Ryan Zech who finished eighth with a 214, junior Hunter Kraus who finished 11th after carding a 217 and freshman Jacob Fair who tied for 14th with a 218.

Not only did Long take home the individual championship, but the Tigers also secured the team title out of the 13 teams in the tournament. The squad finished 24 strokes in front of University of Pennsylvania by posting a three-under par 849 for the whole tournament. Pennsylvania shot a distant 21-over par.

From the first hole to the last, the Tigers never trailed this weekend and put up impressive scores.

Mizzou returns to the course again next week when they head to Jonesborough, Tenn., to take part in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate Golf Tournament. The event starts on Oct. 12 as the Tigers look to keep their momentum going.
