Coming off a thrilling come from behind win against the Georgia Bulldogs Tuesday, Mizzou Men’s Basketball travelled to Columbia, South Carolina to take on a conference opponent in the Gamecocks.

At tipoff, South Carolina quickly went on an 8-0 run to set the Tigers behind. Mizzou would not be able to overcome this deficit and played from behind for the remainder of the game. Xavier Pinson continued his fire from Tuesday night, attempting to spark the Tiger offense scoring three three-pointers in the first 13 minutes.

The Gamecocks spread the ball around to maintain their lead throughout the first half and Mizzou went into the half down 26-39.

South Carolina opened up the second half with a three-pointer from AJ Lawson. Mizzou tried to crawl back, going on a 10-5 run to open up their half, but it was not enough to stop the South Carolina offense led by Maik Kostar. He led the team with 21 points on the day.

Halfway through the second half, the Gamecocks went on a 9-0 run with four free throws and a jumper from Kostar. Mizzou was unable to find their former offensive fire and South Carolina pushed on to close out the game by 22, winning 76-54. Pinson led the Tigers with 12 points.

This game displayed a deeper flaw within the Mizzou offense: inconsistency. Preseason, the players preached about their defensive ability to be expected this season and how the team had been focusing heavily on defense in the off-season.

Fans have seen the potential this offense has, but the key for Mizzou is finding their consistency game to game.

The Tigers tip off for their second appearance against the Aggies of Texas A&M this Tuesday in College Station at 8 p.m.
