The Missouri Tigers tennis team competed in a three-day match at the Missouri State Fall Invitational from Friday through Sunday in Springfield, Missouri. Overall it was a relatively successful trip for the Tigers.

The competition opened up with Sophomores Taylor Gruber and Marta Oliveira winning the Flight A doubles title. In their first match competing as a doubles team, the pair ended 3-0 in route to winning the Flight A title. Gruber and Oliveira began Friday with a 6-4 victory against Southeast Missouri State’s Kseniya Zonova and Sneha Sinha in the first round. The pair added a second-round win when they defeated Central Arkansas’ Chunxi Xin and Fuka Nonoyama 6-3 to move on to the doubles championship. In the championship round, Gruber and Oliveira defeated Jill Van den Dungen and Klara Vickov of Southwest Baptist 6-4.

On the second day at the Missouri State Fall Invitational, the Tigers combined for a 7-1 record in singles play. Gabrielle Goldin joined Gruber and Oliveira in Tigers who went 2-0 during singles matches on Saturday to move on in the invitational. Goldin began by winning her first match 6-2, 7-5 against Tennessee State’s Claudia Sole. Goldin also enjoyed a come from behind win when she beat Alye Darter of Missouri State, 3-6,6-3,10-4 after being down by a set.

On Sunday, Goldin, along with two other Missouri tennis players began playing in their semifinal matchups. Goldin defeated Southwest Baptist’s Jill Van den Dungen, 6-1, 7-6 (3), in her semifinal match. Goldin’s run would come to an end in the championship when Central Arkansas’ Fuku Nonoyama won 6-4, 6-3. Taylor Gruber ended in fourth place and Marta Oliveira finished third in Flight B.

Next up for Missouri is a trip to Lawrence, Kansas, where the Tigers will play in the ITF 25K Lawrence from November 4th through the 10th.
