The Missouri Tigers Women’s basketball team saw their SEC Tournament run come to a halt in the third round at the hands of the third seeded Georgia Bulldogs. Missouri, the six seed, struggled to keep pace and went down quietly by a score of 55-41.

Defense was the story of the night for both teams, the Tigers were able to hold Georgia to just 16.7 percent shooting from behind the three-point line and 38.5 percent from the field. But the Bulldog defense proved to be too much for the Tigers, holding them to their lowest point total of the season with just 41. Mizzou was also only able to put up 18 points in the second half. Georgia was also lockdown when it came to guarding Mizzou’s leading scorer Sophie Cunningham, she went 3-17 from the field and scored only seven points. Cunningham also didn’t get any attempts at free throws during the contest.

The Missouri offense, which has been so electric all season long, was nowhere to be found. The leading scorer for the Tigers was Jordan Frericks with only ten points. She was followed up by Cierra Porter and Amber Smith who had nine, and eight points respectively. The Tigers, however, were dominant on the boards in the contest. Porter had a team-high 12 rebounds, Frericks had six rebounds, and Smith pulled down eight. Mizzou in total brought down 41 boards, while Georgia was only able to grab 35. This is the 27th game out of the 31 that the Tigers have played where they outrebounded their opponents. This was also the Tiger’s 14th game this season where Mizzou had double digit rebounds on the offensive glass, they pulled down 14 against Georgia.

The Missouri Tigers next contest will be in the NCAA Tournament, which begins on March 16.
