No.7 Missouri Wrestling came out on top against their first Mid-American Conference opponent of the season – the Old Dominion Monarchs, this past Sunday with a win by the final score of 40-3. The Tigers dominated from start to finish and improved to 2-0 on the season while Old Dominion fell to 0-1. This is the Tigers 21st straight dual win, a steak that started back in February of 2017. The triumph puts the Tigers at 7-0 in the all-time series.

The team racked up an astounding 40 points that included bonus points from three pins. With a nearly flawless performance, the Tigers held the Monarchs to only three team points. Two freshmen, Cameron Valdiviez (125) of Kansas City, MO and Allan Hart (133) of Akron, Ohio earned their first victory of their Mizzou careers. The men had no problem commanding the mat where Valdiviez secured a third-period pin to put Mizzou in the lead. Hart kept the intensity going with a technical fall victory. Mizzou won nine of the ten weight groups, only falling in the 157 division. Two Tigers, Connor Flynn (165) and Daniel Lewis (174) scored major decision victories. Wyatt Koelling (197) had a rough start, falling behind 3-2, but ended up recording a pin over his opponent.

Up next, the Tigers host their first home meet of the season as they take on No. 10 Virginia Tech this upcoming Friday, Nov. 16 at the Hearnes Center. The meet starts at 7 p.m and the Tigers are hoping for a repeat of the last time they met the Hokies, a 22-12 victory in Blacksburg. This will be the Hokies’ first match of the season.
