Wednesday, Missouri Tigers Basketball traveled to Nashville, Tennessee for a matchup with the Commodores of Vanderbilt. The Tigers left the Music City victorious, beating Vandy 61-52.

It took almost two months but Mizzou finally won their first conference road game this season; now totaling six SEC wins.
It wasn’t a night of firsts for just the team either, Senior Forward Reed Nikko put up a career high 14 points on a perfect 5-5 shooting mark and added five rebounds to the effort.

The paint belonged to the Tigers all night. They out rebounded Vanderbilt 42-27 and put up 28 of their 61 points down low. Although Nikko was Mizzou’s featured forward, Mitchell Smith and Javon Pickett posted career-bests in rebounds, grabbing 12 and 10 respectively.
Sophomore guard, Xavier Pinson, continued his hot streak dropping 15 of his 17 total points in the second half alone. It’s the fifth time in six games that Pinson has scored double digits.

Spurring a 16-5 run early in the second, Pinson put the Tigers in front for good at just the 16:23 mark. A steady offense and focused defense allowed Mizzou to control the game.

Mizzou was just as sharp on defense as they were on the offense. A suffocating defensive effort only allowed for 52 Vanderbilt points. The Commodores shot a dismal 35.6% from the field and 19% from three-point range.

With the win, Missouri moves to .500 on the year, an even 14-14 record. The Tigers only have three more regular-season games and continue to fight for a first-round bye in the upcoming SEC tournament.

Mizzou returns home on Saturday, February 29th for a showdown with the Bulldogs of Mississippi State.
