Mizzou men and women’s cross country kicked off the 2021 regular season with a second place team finish at their home opener on Friday.

Mizzou earned 50 total points for their second place win. For the men, three Tigers finished in the top 10. Junior Marquette Wilhite was the top finisher with a fifth place time of 17:49.0 in the 6k race. Wilhite’s time beat his 2019 home opener finish by over one minute, and it was his second consecutive top-10 finish. Redshirt sophomore followed behind Wilhite in the race and snagged a seventh place finish with a 17:56.9 time.

For the women, Junior Mikayla Reed finished 10th in the 5k, after an injury stopped her from competing in the indoor track season in the spring of 2021. Reed’s time of 17:28.8 set a new personal best as she outpaced her previous top time from 2018 by 12 seconds. Isabella Christansen finished closely behind Reed in 12th place with a time of 17:31.4. In total, five women Tigers placed in the top 20.

Both Mizzou men and women’s cross country teams travel to Vanderbilt to compete in the Commodore Classic on Friday, Sept. 17.
