Last Saturday, Mizzou hosted their first two home meets of the year at Gans Creek Recreation Area, the new 320-acre cross country facility that opened last fall. A beautiful Saturday morning made for perfect racing weather. The men kicked off their 8000m race at 9:00a.m., and a short hour later the women kicked off their race at 10:00a.m. for the 6000m race. A total of 12 women and 14 men ran for Mizzou. The men raced against Texas A&M and Vanderbilt and the women raced Arkansas, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt.

The Tigers came out strong right out of the gate and had a successful opening meet for both the men and women’s sides of the race. The redshirt senior Kieran Wood and senior Sarah Chapman both finished first in their races, while they also both set new course records. Chapman ran a 20:01 and Woods ran 23:53, which crushed her old previous record. The other key racers to look out for are reshman William Sinclair and junior Martin Prodanov who helped the Tigers finish with three top-five finishes. The women finished with 34 points coming in second and the men finished with 61 points coming in first.

The Mizzou Tigers will have one more regular season meet,  the Mizzou Cross Country Invitational on Friday, Oct. 16. After that Invitational, the Tigers will travel to compete in Baton Rouge, La. for the SEC Cross Country Championships on Oct. 30.
