Friday, December 4-

Mizzou Arena drew in a rather large crowd on Friday night as the Tigers defeated the Northern Illinois Huskies, 78-71, for their fourth win on the season.

The Tigers came out on fire with a 12-0 run and forcing the Huskies to burn a quick timeout within the first five minutes of the half.

Junior Wes Clark and freshman Terrence Phillips sparked the offense by hitting quick triples from the outside. Clark ended the night with six points and Phillips with 13 points and six assists.

The hot start rattled the Huskies offense, causing them to shoot only 3 of 19 from the field to start the game.

They did pick up their offense later in the half, however, as freshman Marshawn Wilson came off the bench for NIU and lead all scorers at the break with 13 points. Turnovers for the Tigers assisted the Huskies’ comeback as the Black and Gold went into halftime with only a 27-26 lead.

Both teams had a hot second half offensively. Freshman Kevin Puryear shot 5-for-5 from the line and rattled in 17 points to carry the offensive load.

As a team, the Tigers shot 40 percent from beyond the arc and 53 percent from the field. They also had 18 assists on the evening.

Wilson continued to lead the Huskies all night. He scored 24 points off the bench and was perfect from the free throw line.

Ultimately, NIU’s young, undefeated season came to halt at the hands of Mizzou, who have not lost a single game so far inside the friendly confines of Mizzou Arena.

The Tigers look for a third straight win at home next Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m against Omaha.
