Mizzou Downs Sam Houston St.

Friday, December 30 –

Led by BreAnna Brock and Christine Flores, the Tigers cruised to a pre New Year’s victory over Sam Huston State 66-48.

The final non-conference game ended in a victory for the Tigers, who have posted an impressive 10-1 start heading into conference play.

The SHSU Bearkats were not the easiest challenge of the season, and gave Mizzou trouble early with some impressive shooting and hustle plays. The Tigers were resilent as always though and easily fought back into the game and eventually became too much for SHSU to handle.

Even though the Bearkats jumped out early, the Tigers closed the gap to one at the break to make it a 28-27 contest. Despite early struggles, the Tigers walked into halftime with 22 rebounds, with half of the grabs coming from the senior duo of Brock and Flores.

The second half became the break away point, as Mizzou ignited a 15-2 run to pull away. The lead got as high as 20 before Mizzou landed with an 18-point victory, leaving the Tigers with extreme confidence heading into the conference schedule.

Both stars had double-doubles for the Tigers. Flores posted 10 rebounds to go with 13 points and Brock grabbed another 11 boards to give the Tigers a super pair.

Mizzou’s next stop is against Baylor as the Tigers hope to upset the Lady Bears to open conference season. 6’8” superstar Britney Griner, who is a monster for both opposing offenses and defenses, leads the Bears.
