Monday, April 27—

Missouri Tigers head football coach Gary Pinkel signed a five-year contract extension this weekend, bumping his 2015 salary to $4.02 million.

After two consecutive SEC East Championships, and a 2014 SEC Coach of the Year award, Pinkel was due for a raise.

The $820,000 pay bump makes Pinkel the tenth coach in the SEC to make at least $4 million per year.

The 15th year Missouri head coach has quietly become one of the best coaches in the country during his tenure in Columbia. After Mizzou went 5-7 in its first season in the SEC, the Tigers have since gone 23-5, picking up Cotton and Citrus Bowl victories along the way.

Missouri’s recruiting also took a massive step forward in 2015. This year’s recruiting class features eight four-star recruits in addition to five-star recruit Terry Beckner Jr. Many consider Beckner Jr. as the most talented high school athlete in the country. The class is easily the best the Tigers have had in the last decade.

The Black and Gold game is complete and the buzz around Mizzou football has begun. With a strong recruiting class, relatively weak schedule and a resigned head coach, the Tigers will look to break through in the SEC this year and win the championship for the first time in school history.
