The Missouri men’s basketball team was able to conclude their exhibition schedule with a 77-54 win against University of Missouri St. Louis this afternoon. Freshman Montaque Gill-Caesar led the Tigers with 19 points, while Jonathon Williams III contributed a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Coming off a dominating win over William Jewell, the Tigers got off to a surprisingly shaky start against the Tritons. Missouri took a 14-13 lead with twelve and a half minutes left in the half, but UMSL responded with three consecutive three-pointers, two of which came from sophomore Alex Majewski.

Mizzou not only struggled to finish offensively, but also had difficulty transitioning defensively, allowing UMSL to grab a 25-14 lead over the Tigers just under the ten minute mark. The Tritons were lights-out from behind the arch, making all of their first five three-point attempts.

However, Mizzou was finally able to gain some momentum after sophomore Wes Clark knocked down a three for the Tigers, bringing the score to 17-25.   Williams III was able to tie up the game with 5 minutes left in the half, and was also able to knock down a three in the final possession of the half, giving the Tigers a 39-34 lead heading into the locker room.

Mizzou started the second half on a much better note, with junior Ryan Rosburg setting the pace with two baskets in the first minute. Midway through the half, senior Keith Shamburger scored on two consecutive possessions, with a jumper and three-pointer respectively. The Tigers went on an 11-0 run, turning a 54-48 lead into a comfortable 65-48 lead with a little under 8 minutes of play left. Shamburger then threw an alley-oop pass to Deuce Bello, who threw down the dunk to give the Tigers a 67-50 lead.

Mizzou opens up regular season play next Friday, November 14 against UMKC. The game is set to start at 8 p.m.
