Saturday, January 30 –

The Missouri Tigers hit the road this weekend to take on four of the nation’s top programs at the Metroplex Challenge on Saturday night in Fort Worth, Texas. No. 16 Mizzou competed against No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 6 LSU, Washington and No. 12 Stanford.

The Lady Tigers entered the competition with an average team score of 195.600, while freshman Britney Ward earned the title of Freshman of the Week on Tuesday, Jan. 26, for the second consecutive week. Ward had also taken top honors on the vault and beam against then-No. 9 Georgia on January 22.

The team started its rotation on the beam with a lineup of Tia Allbritten, Morgan Porter, Allison Bower, Becca Schugel, Brooke Kelly, and Britney Ward. Allbritton and Bower both tied their career highs with a score of 9.8, while Kelly earned a career best of 9.875, adding to a team total of 48.575 to open the meet.

For the second week in a row, the Tigers scored a 49.025 on the floor. They were led by a score of 9.850 from sophomore Kennedi Harris, closing the rotation with 49.075 on the event.

Mizzou headed into the third rotation in second place with a combined score of 97.65, trailing only to Washington (98.400). However, after the third rotation on the vault tying the team’s 2015 high at 49.025 and a bye in the fourth, the Tigers fell to fifth place heading into the final rotation.

The team closed the meet with a score of 49.150 on bars, the second highest score for the Tigers in the season. Freshman Morgan Porter ended the night with a career best of 9.900, while Schugel tied her personal best with 9.850 and sophomore Shauna Miller earned a season high of 9.800.

However, the team’s combined points were not enough to defeat the high-scoring competition. Mizzou ultimately fell to their competitors, having earned a total score of 195.825 to land them in fifth place, while first place Oklahoma took home the win with 197.550.

The lady Tigers return home on Friday, Feb. 5, to host Lindenwood and Southeast Missouri State in the State of Missouri Meet at 7 p.m. at the Hearnes Center.
