Mardi Gras Invitational Recap Gymnastics

The No. 15 Mizzou gymnastics team broke records this past weekend at the Mardi Gras Invitational, where they competed against Stanford, LSU and Utah. The team received their second-highest score of the season with a 196.475 placing them at third on Friday night.

No. 5 LSU claimed the team win with a 197.250, followed by No. 4 Utah in second with a 197.075 and Stanford in fourth with a 195.850. Senior Madeleine Huber gained a career-high score of 9.925 on bars, tying overall. The team also scored a 49 or better on each of the four events which included a 49.175 season-high score on bars.

Mizzou kicked off on beam where they posted a 49.000, giving them a strong start to the meet. Sophomore anchor Lauren Clevenger gained a career-best of 9.875, tying her for second overall. Sophomore Gabrielle Gottula scored a 9.85 and senior Brooke Kelly earned a 9.8.

The Tigers reached their highest score of the night on the floor, going 49.200 in the second rotation. Junior Mary Nicholson had an outstanding routine as she tied her season-best with a 9.875, leading her entire team with a 9.8 or better. Senior Michaelee Turner earned a season-high of 9.85 as the second spot in the lineup, and Huber and Junior Aspen Tucker both scored 9.825’s. Gottula also notched a 9.8.

Redshirt junior Morgan Porter earned a season-best of 9.875 as the leadoff position to contribute to the Tigers’ 49.100 score on the vault. Huber also earned a season-high of 9.85, Tucker and sophomore Chelsey Christensen both added 9.8s, a personal best for Christensen. Mizzou ended the evening with yet another season-high of 49.175 on bars. Huber scored her career-best 9.925 for the fourth time in her Missouri career to tie for the event win. Porter clocked a 9.875 for her second event in a row and senior Becca Schugel earned a 9.825.
