On Monday, the Mizzou women’s tennis team faced off against the Ole Miss Rebels at home at Mizzou Tennis Arena in Columbia. After a promising two-match winning streak against Iowa State and 25th ranked Mississippi State, the Tigers were held to just one set win in this match resulting in a 4-0 loss to the Rebels.

For the doubles match-ups, Mizzou started out the set 1-0 as junior Bronte Murgett and senior Marta Oliveira beat Ole Miss senior’s Sabina Machalova and Alexa Bortles 6-1. After that however, the Rebels would even the set as Ole Miss senior’s Anna Vrbenska and Tereza Janatova would outplay Ellie Wright and Elys Ventura 6-2 resulting in a tiebreaker for the double’s point.

The final match of the singles set would result in Ole Miss taking the first point of the match as Ole Miss junior Lillian Gabrielsen and sophomore Tiphanie Fiquet were able edge out Gabrielle seniors Goldin and Serena Nash 6-4.

Mizzou headed into the singles matches 1-0 after losing the doubles point 2-1. In the singles matches, Ole Miss made quick work as they would win the first three singles matches shutting out Mizzou. The first match was Vrbenska facing off against Oliveira as Vrbenska won both sets 6-1. After that, Mizzou freshman Valentina Vazquez would go up against Janatova as Janatova would win the first set 6-1 and the second set 6-2. Finally, Ole Miss senior Sabina Machalova brought it home against Murgett as she won 6-1 in set one, and 6-4 in set two.

Due to the three wins by Ole Miss, the three other matches went unfinished as both Nash and Ventura did not have a chance to play their matches. Fiquet was in the second set losing 4-1 to Wright once the third match was won resulting in that match going to an unfinished contest.

With that loss, Mizzou’s overall record is now 12-4 with a conference record of .500 at 1-1. They look to bounce back next week against UT Martin at home on Saturday.
