Mizzou MBB Holds on to Advance to the AdvoCare Invitational Championship

In a thrilling tight game, Missouri Men’s Basketball (5-1) outlast St. John’s (5-1), Friday at the HP Field House in Orlando, Florida. There were seven ties and 11 lead changes in this semifinal game in the AdvoCare Invitational.

The Tigers had a balanced offensive attack as it has been this season as this is the second consecutive game and third all season with five players scoring double digits. Mizzou also made a season-best 14 three-pointers in the game. On the defensive end, the Tigers were able to collectively get six blocks, seven steals while holding them to 42.2 percent from the field. The turning point of the game, however, was despite leading by 16 points in the half, Mizzou managed to find them down eight with the score at 58-50 with 12:20 to play. The Tigers responded by getting hot from three scoring eight of the 14 three-pointers in the game in the final 12 minutes. Thanks to a final 9-0 run, the Tigers were able to secure the lead and finish strong for the win.

The Top Tigers for the game are Jontay Porter, Jordan Barnett, and Jordan Geist. Jontay Porter (Columbia, MO) recorded five rebounds, two blocks and steals, and 16 points making a season-high four three-pointers. Jordan Barnett (St. Louis, MO) playing 35 minutes recorded a near double-double with nine rebounds, two blocks, and 19 points and was exceptional from the charity stripe, connecting on a career-high 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Jordan Geist (Fort Wayne, Ind.) played a well-rounded game recording nine rebounds, four assists, and 11 points.

Mizzou will now play for the AdvoCare Invitational Championship on Sunday night at 8:30 p.m. CT, on ESPN2. They will face off against West Virginia Mountaineers.
