The Missouri Soccer team (3-2-2) ended their four-game unbeaten streak with a 5-2 victory over the Florida Gators (1-6-1) Sunday at Walton Stadium. This win secured the Tigers with at least the sixth seed in the SEC Soccer Tournament and is guaranteed a first-round bye. With this win, it is the first time the Tigers have gone undefeated in conference play at home since joining the SEC.

In a back and forth contest, Florida was able to steal and score within the 4 minute. The Tigers then were able to tie the game by a Gators own goal in the 8 minute. Coming into the 16 minute Bella Alessi diving through the Gators defense gained another goal for the Tigers, 2-1. The Tigers didn’t let up on defense as the Gators attempted to get a score. Coming into the end of the second half, Cassidy Nurnberger for the Missouri Tigers sent in a ball that struck the underside of the crossbar and bounced down into the net, increasing the lead for Mizzou 3-1. Entering the second half, the Tigers put pressure on the Gators with two more goals. Within the 70 minute, Nurnberger scored a perfect volley from a corner kick by freshman Hannah Joella 5-1. The Gators responded with a late goal in the 76 minute, but couldn’t catch-up. Leaving the match to the Tigers 5-2.

The Tigers will now prepare for postseason play as they enter the SEC Soccer Tournament this weekend. Their next game will be Sunday, Nov. 15th at 7:30 pm C.T. at Orange Beach, Alabama. The tournament will air on the SEC ESPN Network.
