The University of Missouri’s soccer team defeated the University of Northern Colorado Bears by a score of 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. In a back and forth contest, Mizzou was able to tally first with a goal by Skye Kingsley in the 27th minute. In the 40th minute, Northern Colorado was able to take advantage of a free kick. The Bears tied the score at one after Olivia Seddon found Avery Smith in the box for a Northern Colorado goal. Both goalies played flawlessly in the second period. After many second half opportunities, including five Missouri shots, neither team was able to break the stalemate. The game continued in overtime until Mizzou found its game winning goal in the 96th minute. Grace Kitts was the first to get to a loose ball deflection in the box and put the ball in the back of the net. With her game-winner, Kitts scored her first goal since Oct. 29, 2017 after she sat out the whole 2018 season with an injury. It was a hot, muggy afternoon that topped out in the low 90’s at Audrey J. Walton Stadium.

This match concluded a six match homestand for Mizzou, and they will now travel to Oxford, MS to take on the Ole Miss Rebels this Friday, Sept. 20. On Thursday, Sept. 19, Northern Colorado will move over to Boulder, CO to take on the University of Colorado. Missouri improves its record to 6-2 and snaps a two-game skid while Northern Colorado drops to 2-6-1.
