This past Saturday, the Mizzou women’s soccer team took on the Mississippi State Bulldogs at MSU Soccer Stadium in Starkville, Mississippi. The Tigers picked up another 1-1 draw this weekend putting the Tigers at 1-2-2 while putting the Bulldogs at 2-1-3 on the season.

Starting off strong the Tigers dominated and forced pressure right out of the gate. Mizzou kept the ball on Mississippi State’s half for the first half of the match and Mizzou sophomore goalie Isabella Alessio’s did not get a shot on goal until 15 minutes into the match. This early domination paid off for the Tigers especially in the 38th minute when senior midfielder Macy Trujilo headed in a goal from junior midfielder Blythe Beldner to put Mizzou up 1-0.

Mississippi State flying under the radar first half came out strong the second half catching Mizzou’s defense off guard with sophomore Onyi Echegini counterattacking and scoring a goal in the 57th minute to put the Bulldogs on the board tying the game at one goal each.

Mississippi State goalkeeper Maddy Anderson was called out of the game after an injury and left the game bringing in Hannah Pimentel making her first college debut. The Tigers took 11 shots on goal, but it was not enough to put them up before time ran out in regulation forcing the Tigers to go into their second back to back overtime game.

Mizzou’s defense came out strong, protecting the goal and stopping all four of Mississippi State’s shots during the first overtime period. After 110 minutes and neither team scoring the match ended 1-1.

Mizzou plays next Sunday, Nov. 1st against Kentucky at noon and Mississippi State plays next Friday, Oct. 30th at 6p.m.
