Tuesday was a fantastic day for Mizzou Softball. They hosted instate rivals Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) in a double header at Mizzou Softball Stadium and the Tigers came away with the sweep. The brooms were out and the Tigers certainly used them to sweep the Redhawks back to Cape Girardeau. This improved the Tiger winning streak to tie Mizzou’s longest winning streak of the season, six games. It was much needed for the Tigers, who are now 29-18 on the season.

In the first game, the Tigers squeaked away with a 4-3 victory by way of two big home runs which led to three total runs in the sixth. Mizzou gave up three in the first inning, but after that, the Redhawks were unable to find home plate again. The game featured some solid defense and some great pitching as there were only seven hits in the entire game, five for the Tigers and only two for the Redhawks. Both of SEMO’s hits came in the first inning, as then Mizzou starting pitcher Madi Norman shut them out the rest of the game to improve to (14-7) on the year. The only hitter in the game to get more than one hit was Mizzou third baseman, Kim Wert, who went two for three on the day and hit what would end up being the game winning two run home run in the sixth.

The second game of the double header featured a lot more hits than the first game. There were 13 total hits in the game, nine going to Mizzou and four going to SEMO. Another late inning couple of runs gave Mizzou the lead, and the Tigers ended up winning 4-1. In the bottom of the fifth Mizzou cracked open for two runs to take the lead 3-1 and then in the sixth, Brooke Wilmes smacked a home run that would play as a dagger in the hearts and hopes of the Redhawks. Mizzou starting pitcher Cassie Gasper was credited with the win and is now (11-5) on the season.

The Mizzou softball Tigers are back in action this weekend in Starkville, Mississippi as they go head to head with the Bulldogs of the Mississippi State University. It is the last road series for Mizzou until the SEC Tournament starting May 7th.
