In a double header matchup against rival Illinois Fighting Illini softball team, the Missouri Tigers came away with the ultimate rights to brag, a sweep. The game was played at a neutral site, Lindenwood University, where both teams went into this one hoping to come out with better resumes for the WCWS. Illinois was 24-10 before yesterdays slate of games, dropping them to 24-12. Missouri was 20-16, and improved to 22-16.

In the first game, the Tigers shutout Illinois by a score of 2-0. Catcher Hatti Moore led the charge with her bat as she went two for three with both of her hits producing RBIs. Her single in
the third drove in right fielder Abby George, what would end up being the game winning run. In her next at bat in the fifth, she doubled into center field and drove in Left Fielder Regan Nash
as icing on the cake for the Tigers. Illinois starting pitcher Sydney Sickels dropped to a 16-6 record now on the year with the loss, while Missouri’s starting pitcher, Madi Norman, improved to 11-7 with her seven inning shutout over Illinois.

In the second game, both teams were able to score. However, the Tigers found the ‘W’ once again over their border rival. The final score ended up being 3-2 with the winning
run coming in the top of the seventh as shortstop Brooke Wilmes flew out in the infield and Kendyll Bailey ended up scoring from third to give the Tigers the advantage in the last inning. The closer for the Tigers, Eli Daniel, got the save in the seventh. She only allowed one hit in a very crucial bottom half of the inning to secure the Tigers’ the victory over Illinois. Sydney Sickels got the start again for Illinois and once again lost, dropping her record to 16-7. Missouri’s winning pitcher Cassie Gasper is now 9-4 on the season.

Up next for the Tigers, they travel to Mississippi to clash with the Rebels of Ole Miss. This weekend long affair will be played on SEC Network +.
